Kara Allen
If this season of life feels heavier than you expected, you don’t have to navigate it alone. I support individuals and couples in Austin who are moving through fertility challenges, pregnancy, postpartum changes, and early parenthood. And unlike providers who step in for just one chapter, I’m here to walk with you through the whole journey.

I began my work with couples while pursuing my B.A.'s in Psychology and in Brain and Cognitive Science. I worked in a lab that studied long-term relationships and assessed for their relationship satisfaction and connection. As as associate, I chose a supervisor who specialized in caring for moms so I could receive specialized support.

Currently, I am highly trained in perinatal mental health and have advanced training in infertility, pregnancy loss, trauma, and donor conception. I've focused my career on the intersection of relationships with fertility, pregnancy, and parenthood because I believe there is no greater time of joy and challenge in a marriage.

My approach is relational and trauma-informed, rooted in understanding how your nervous system responds to stress and uncertainty. In everyday terms: we’ll pay attention to what’s happening emotionally and physically when you feel overwhelmed, shut down, reactive, or distant—and gently build skills that help you feel more grounded and connected. I also hold space for how culture, family background, and life experiences shape the way you show up in relationships and in parenthood.

In our work together, you can expect:
-
Support through fertility treatment, pregnancy anxiety, and postpartum mood changes
-
Guidance in understanding the common stress points and patterns couples experience as they transition into parenthood
-
Help navigating conflict, communication breakdowns, and emotional distance
-
Tools to regulate stress and feel safer in your body
-
A space where your full story is welcomed without judgment

Whether you’re an individual feeling anxious or depleted, or a couple feeling more like roommates than partners, therapy can be a place to slow down, understand what’s happening beneath the surface, and reconnect—with yourself and each other.

If you’re looking for fertility counseling, postpartum therapy, or couples therapy in Austin, I would be honored to support you through this season and the ones that follow.
